NASA Launches Spacecraft To Pluto, The Kuipers And Stars Beyond

NASA on Thursday launched a trailblazing probe to Pluto, at the solar system's outermost limits, after two days of delays.

The Atlas V-551 rocket propelling the probe into space blasted off from Cape Canaveral, Florida at 2:00 pm (1900 GMT), after being postponed for two consecutive days due to inclement weather and technical problems.

Ancient Mega Asteroid Dusted Earth

Scientists think they have established a link between an ancient collision in the main asteroid belt and a layer of dust particles deposited on Earth from space soon thereafter. The findings could help identify similar events in the geological record and provide more clues about the history of the solar system.

ESA, Seals Deal For First Galileo Satellites

The European Space Agency (ESA) and Galileo Industries signed Thursday a 1.5-billion-euro (1.8-billion-dollar) contract for the delivery of four satellites to be used in an ambitious navigation system that Europe hopes will rival the reigning US GPS network.
