Chirac Urges Reshaping Of European Space Sector

President Jacques Chirac of France said last week the "reorganization" of the European space sector is "absolutely necessary" in order to preserve "the autonomy" of Europe, in particular in the field of launchers. France hopes that the forthcoming conference of the European Space Agency (ESA) will "validate" in May "the scenario of relaunch of the 10-tonne version of Ariane 5," Ms Haignere said at the cabinet meeting.

Operational Concept For Unmanned Combat Air Vehicle Unveiled

Northrop Grumman has unveiled its operational system concept for a naval unmanned combat air vehicle designed to fly surveillance, strike and suppression-of-enemy-air-defense missions from an aircraft carrier. The concept represents Northrop Grumman's participation in an emerging government competition to develop and demonstrate UCAVs that could perform US Navy and Air Force missions.

Space Systems/Loral (SS/L), has completed static loads testing of iPSTAR-1, the world's largest commercial communications satellite with a launch weight of 14,900 pounds (6775 kilograms). iPSTAR-1 is being built by SS/L at its Palo Alto, California facility for Shin Satellite, Plc of Thailand.
