TOKYO, (UPI) July 22 , 2004 -
The Japanese security firm Secom Co. Thursday unveiled Secom Robot X, a robot that can chase trespassers at 6.2 miles (10 kilometers) per hour. The robot is expected to be available commercially by the first half of 2005. The company hopes to use the robot as part of a security system for factories, ports, airports, parking spaces, and other large areas. It has infrared sensors that would contact a human guard when it detects trespassers. Secom plans to rent the robot on a monthly basis for about $3,000 per month. All rights reserved.
