Tropical storm Bertha has formed in the Atlantic, southwest of Africa's Cape Verde islands, the US National Hurricane Center in Miami said Thursday.
At 11 am (1500 GMT) Bertha was located 310 kilometers (190 miles) from the Cape Verde islands, and was moving west at 22 kilometers (14 miles) per hour.
If the storm follows the expected path, it is likely eventually to pass through the islands of the Caribbean, possibly near Bermuda.
Bertha is the second tropical storn to form during this Atlantic hurricane season which started about one month ago and continues through November 30.
