SES NEW SKIES Satellite To Serve Oil And Gas Industry

SES NEW SKIES announces that CapRock Communications, a global provider of satellite communications to remote and harsh environments, has contracted 18 MHz of C-Band capacity on the NSS-7 satellite at 338 degrees East. CapRock also renewed an existing contract for 5.8 MHz in Ku-Band on that satellite.

CapRock Communications is a leading provider of global satellite communications for the oil and gas, government services, maritime engineering and construction, mining and disaster recovery markets.

The company operates five teleports around the globe including one teleport and regional support center located in Macae, Rio de Janeiro.This is a strategic site for the oil and gas industry, since it is close to the Campos Basin, the largest oil producing region in Brazil.

The oil and gas industry continues to expand in Brazil with the discovery of large oil and gas reserves in the Santos Basin, considered to be one of the most important in the world.

Dolores Martos, Vice President Sales Latin America and Caribbean at SES NEW SKIES, stated: "The high EIRP, coverage area, elevation angle and connectivity of NSS-7 is ideal for CapRock since the satellite allows CapRock to provide bandwidth to its customers operating in the offshore oil fields and leverages its teleport in Macae. At the same time, the satellite provides connectivity back to the U.S. and Africa, both in C- and Ku-Bands."

NSS-7
NSS-7 is a state-of-the-art, hybrid Ku- and C-band satellite located at 338 degrees East over the Atlantic Ocean, providing coverage of Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and the Americas. The satellite is located at one of the most strategic orbital locations for trans-Atlantic connectivity as well as internet connectivity from North America into Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The powerful spacecraft features 49 C-band transponders and 48 Ku-band transponders.
