Four people died and three others went missing Wednesday in flash floods triggered by torrential rains across Turkey's mountainous Black Sea coast, emergency officials said.

Two of the victims were killed in Savsat, a town in the northeastern province of Artvin, when a river burst its bank and swept away a house, two bridges and two barns, a statement from the emergency situations agency said.

One of the victims was a 70-year-old woman who perished under the collapsed house, Anatolia news agency reported.

A girl carried away by the waters was later rescued, while three people remained unaccounted for, the statement said.

A man and a woman were also crushed to death in Bogazcik village in the province of Ordu when a landslide destroyed their house, the statement said, adding that 11 people were injured in floods across the region.

The waters also inundated dozens of houses and offices in Bartin province, to the west, it said.

Turkey's mountainous Black Sea region, where many people live in traditional wooden houses perched on hillsides, is prone to seasonal floods and landslides.
