The iDirect solution, incorporated into the Combat Service Support (CSS) VSAT network, allows combat support personnel to transmit supply requisitions in real time.

The remote communication capability eliminates the need for couriers to deliver requests in person reducing exposure to potential hostile situations.

The initial network launch will call for 200 units to be deployed immediately with a growth potential to well over 1,000 units over the next 18 months.

Prior to the deployment of the CSS VSAT, requisitions for parts or supplies often needed to be delivered by a courier driving through hostile terrain exposing them to possible enemy ambush.

By enabling real time VSAT transmissions the iDirect solution eliminates the need to deliver disks with requests or other messages. This improved efficiency has significantly reduced the number of convoys necessary to support field units, decreasing troop exposure to the enemy.

In addition to greater security, supply chains are more closely integrated improving the efficiency of the entire logistics support process.

As quoted in the AR News Army News Service, "This system is amazing," said Maj. Geoff DeTingo, G4 Planner for the 3ID.

"Generally speaking, on rotation, its one-to-four days before there are communications and everybody's talking. With VSATs, everybody was up on the first day within hours. Over the first four days, more than 2,500 electronic parts requisitions were sent via VSATs - more than double the normal requisition data flow."
