Stratos Announces "Come Sail Away" Savings On Inmarsat Fleet Hardware

Stratos Global Thursday announced at the Pacific Marine Expo in Seattle, WA, the opportunity for fishing vessel operators, and other maritime customers, to "Come Sail Away", with savings of up to US$2000 on Inmarsat Fleet F33 and F55 maritime satellite terminals.

While supplies last, Stratos and its participating distribution partners are offering immediate discounts of US$1,500 on selected Fleet F33 and US$2,000 on selected Fleet F55 maritime satellite terminals. There are no airtime credits to use before this discount is applied, so customers recognize the savings immediately.

"Inmarsat's Fleet family of services provides maritime vessels of all sizes with an efficient and affordable data and voice connectivity solution that operates in almost any location around the world," said Leigh Puddester, Stratos' chief marketing officer.

"With our 'Come Sail Away' promotion, fishing boats and other smaller maritime vessels have a unique opportunity to take advantage of immediate discounts on Inmarsat Fleet F33 and F55 terminals from the world's leading provider of Inmarsat services who sets the standard for reliable and responsive service by which the rest of industry is measured."

Both Fleet F33 and F55 solutions from Stratos provide global digital voice connectivity and an integrated data service option that is ideal for fax and batched data transmission, including file transfers.

The integrated data service option, available within Inmarsat's spot beam coverage areas, provides fax service at 9.6 kbps, as well as effective dial-up data transmission speeds of up to 40 kbps using optional V40/V42 compression.

In addition, Inmarsat Fleet F33 and F55 offer a mobile packet data solution (MPDS) option that provides persistent connectivity at speeds up to 64 kbps incoming from the satellite and up to 28 kbps outgoing from the terminal.

This always-on, higher-speed option is particularly suited to IP-based data applications, such as Web surfing, intranet access and e-mail. MPDS connectivity is available within Inmarsat's spot beam coverage areas and users pay only for the amount of data sent and received, rather than the amount of time they are connected.

The Inmarsat Fleet family of solutions from Stratos, which also includes Fleet F77, is the next generation of maritime satellite communications services, having evolved from the highly successful Inmarsat-A/-B and -M systems, but using lighter-weight, stabilized antennas to provide both ocean-going and coastal vessels with comprehensive voice, fax and data communications services, including e-mail and Internet access.

Hellas Sat Takes Over Control Of Its Satellite From SES Astra
