Orbcomm Teams With Delphi To Provide Telematics Data Solutions

Dulles VA (SPX) May 24, 2004
Orbcomm Inc, a global satellite telecommunications company, on Monday announced that it is working in tandem with Delphi Corp to offer the pacing technologies needed for low-cost, highly robust telematics applications for the global automotive and other marketplaces.

This relationship directly addresses the three big challenges associated with effectively deploying wireless products and services for telematics today: network coverage, practical vehicle-grade hardware products available in volume, and cost-effective service pricing.

Automotive OEMs no longer need to worry about competing wireless protocols, managing the transition from analog to digital cell-based systems, or traditionally expensive satellite hardware and service prices.

"A world-class automotive hardware communications product that works around the globe and at an attractive price is a powerful combination that our customers are demanding" said Dr. Robert W. Schumacher, General Director & Business Line Executive Wireless at Delphi. "We think that this new capability will really help propel the telematics market forward."

"We are proud and enthusiastic to be working with Delphi, the industry's technology leader, on such an important initiative," said Jerry Eisenberg, CEO of Orbcomm, "The results of our work together will have a very real impact on the safety and security of the driving public."
