Shortly after delivering increased satellite communications coverage in the Asia-Pacific region, CapRock Communications continues its global expansion by extending its presence in South America.

Through the formation of a holding company, CapRock Holdings do Brasil Participacoes Ltda., and the subsequent acquisition of Blue Sky Comunicacoes do Brasil Ltda., CapRock has obtained a Brazilian commercial license to provide an extensive suite of satellite telecommunication services in Brazil. South America and the South Atlantic region also will be included in the service area.

"Extending service in South America is the next step in our global expansion," said CapRock CEO Peter Shaper. "The formation of our holding company and the acquisition of Blue Sky allows us to meet client requests for service presence in that region.

"Our customers there now can benefit from the reliable satellite communications services made possible through CapRock's Ipxpress network and extensive experience providing communications to remote locations around the globe."

CapRock has been executing on its initiative to expand its communications services to the harshest and most remote parts of the world. In the last year, the company has expanded service and increased access to technology for the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East and Africa.

Now, with this move into Brazil, CapRock increases its service capabilities in South America and delivers on its commitment to boost service levels to customers in all parts of the world.

Established in 1981 to provide communications services to the most extreme locations, CapRock Communications is the dominant satellite communications provider for the drilling industry.

StarBand, America's first consumer high-speed, two-way satellite Internet provider, has signed a five-year agreement to extend its lease of six satellite transponders on the Telstar 7 satellite currently operated by Loral Skynet.
