WCC Launches SSAS Compliant Maritime Security Solution

a very expensive commercial space project paid for indirectly by US taxpayers
Chandler AZ - Apr 13, 2004
In response to increased security demands in a post-9/11 reality, World Communications Center (WCC), a leading provider of global satellite voice and data communications, has announced the launch of MariTrack.

This end-to-end maritime security and communications solution that leverages the global coverage and advanced encryption of Iridium technology to meet and exceed the International Maritime Organization (IMO) requirements for Ship Security Alert System (SSAS) and Vessel Monitoring Services (VMS). In addition, MariTrack addresses future maritime communications requirements for Automatic Identification (AIS) capabilities.

"WCC's MariTrack solution provides ship owners and managers of ocean-bearing vessels with one turnkey solution to meet their multiple security needs," says Weldon Knape, CEO of WCC. "Security is one area where you can't risk anything but the best -- and that means 100% global coverage."

According to Christina Clifton, executive vice president, sales and marketing, for Iridium Satellite LLC, "Only Iridium-based maritime communications solutions like MariTrack provide truly global satellite coverage including oceans, airways and Polar Regions.

Based on a constellation of 66 low-earth orbiting (LEO) satellites operated by The Boeing Company, Iridium satellite technology delivers vital communications services to MariTrack users in remote areas where no other form of communication is available."

MariTrack offers a suite of advanced software features consisting of GPS fleet tracking functionality, web-based crew calling including unique caller ID codes and call history access; alarm/alert notification via email, fax and pager; and capacity for simultaneous emergency alert while the phone is in use. The expanded web browser-based software is provided in conjunction with Ontec.

"WCC's combination of the MariTrack's industry leading online security and encryption, Ontec's permission-based software features, Iridium's completely global satellite technology and our 24 x 7 customer support is the best in the industry," comments Sam Romey, president of WCC. "Crews and ship management can be assured that they are covered -- and secure -- day or night."
