Spot Image Developing Automatic Orthoimage Production System

Spot the planes
Paris - Jan 21, 2004
Following a study conducted by Spot Image and the French Space Agency (CNES) to define the detailed design of an integrated system for automatic production of orthoimages, two development contracts have been signed with industry partners.

Dubbed Andorre (for Atelier Numrique D'ORthoREctification, or digital orthorectification shop), development work has been split into two packages.

The first package, with CNES as prime contractor, has been awarded to Thales Information Systems. The second package, covering system development and integration at Spot Image, has been awarded to CS Communication & Systemes.

It includes software for managing production, product quality control and editing, as well as the supply of equipment. Automatic production of orthoimages is made possible thanks to the high location accuracy of imagery acquired by SPOT 5's HRS instrument.

This tool, which will be operational at Spot Image by end 2004, will also be marketed and sold to receiving stations with a SPOT 5 Terminal and to any organization with a Reference3D database required to orthorectify imagery.
