5th China Air Show Gets Record Sum Of Insurance Pledge

The 5th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition (CIAAE), scheduled to be held from Nov. 1-7 in Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province, has been insured fo r 69.2 billion yuan (8.34 billion US dollars), a record high.

That was learned from an agreement signed recently between the CIAAE organizing committee of Zhuhai City and the Pacific Property Insurance Company of China.

The insurance package will cover planes, rockets, satellites, third-party liabilities and pilots against any risks. It will alsoprovide security pledge to the general public, including ground workers, exhibitors and visitors, said an official from the Pacific Property Insurance Company.

And the maximum compensation for each victim could be 120,000 yuan (about 14,458 US dollars), according to the official.

According to the organizing committee, business representativesfrom 32 countries and regions, including a dozen international aviation and aerospace companies such as Boeing, Airbus and GE will attend the air show, an biennial event.

A couple of aerial acrobatics teams, including the "Swifts" of Russian Air force, "Golden Dream" and UBB from Britain, the "Patrols" from France and the "August 1st" of Chinese Air Force, will also stage performances at the show.

The return capsule of the "Shenzhou V," the first manned spacecraft of China, will be displayed in the air show.

The first such air show was held in 1996.

Hong Kong's Wen Wei Po newspaper reports that Chinese space engineers are now developing new types of satellite for communication, remote sensing, mapping, and space exploration that will be visible to the naked eye from the earth.
