Taiwan's High Tech Computer (HTC) Corp. said Wednesday it has set up a subsidiary in Japan and launched its "hTc Z" 3G handset for NTT DoCoMo Inc.

HTC said in a statement that it is working closely with NTT DoCoMo to deliver "hTc Z", the first Japanese tri-band 3G phone that allows users to roam across Japan, Europe, the United States and Asia.

The company said its Tokyo unit-- the HTC Nippon Corp-- mainly handles marketing, sales and customer services and represents its long-term commitment to the Japanese market.

HTC plans to extend cooperation with NTT DoCoMo in the hope of providing more innovative products, the statement quoted CEO Peter Chou as saying.

"HTC is aiming to be the best choice of Windows Mobile devices in the Japanese wireless market," Chou said.
