US firm to set up design centre in India's technology hub

US-based Intersil Corp, which makes analog solutions, said Wednesday it is setting up a centre to develop and design data converters in India's technology hub of Bangalore, its first such operation in Asia.

The data converters will be used to convert analog information into digital format.

"The new facility will represent a multi-million dollar investment over the next several years," said Michael Althar, vice-president of Intersil Analog Solutions. "This is the first such facility of the company in Asia."

"It will be operational by June," he said.

Intersil, a Nasdaq-listed firm, has seven development centres in the United States and the United Kingdom.

Initially 15 professionals and designers will be employed at the Bangalore centre which will be ramped up over the next couple of years, Althar said.

"The Indian team will work with Intersil's marketing teams and key customers to define, develop and introduce leading edge high technology analog products."
