Canon's net profit rises 27 pct to 657.7 mln dlrs in third quarter

Leading Japanese office equipment and camera maker Canon said Thursday its consolidated net profit for the third quarter rose 27 percent from last year thanks to demand for digital cameras and equipment for producing liquid crystal display (LCD) televisions.

Net profit in the three months to September came to 73.0 billion yenmillion dollars), while pre-tax profit rose 19.3 percent from a year earlier to 117.3 billion yen on sales which increased 10.6 percent to 767.6 billion yen,

For the full-year to December, Canon maintained its earlier forecast of net profit of 263 billion yen and pre-tax profit of 440 billion yen.

It raised its sales forecast slightly to 3.183 trillion yen from 3.18 trillion yen.
