Leading Indian IT company slapped with second sexual harassment suit
BANGALORE, India (AFP) Oct 05, 2003
The former marketing chief of leading Indian software firm Infosys Technologies is facing a second sexual harassment case, a company statement said.

The statement issued late Saturday said Jennifer Griffith, a former employee of India's second-largest software exporter at its unit in Freemont, California, filed the suit against Phaneesh Murthy in a US court Friday.

The suit alleges that "Phaneesh Murthy sexually harrassed Griffith while she was employed at Infosys," the statement said.

The statement said the lawsuit was yet to be served to the Nasdaq-listed company and Infosys was still reviewing the woman's allegations.

Murthy quit Infosys last year after a previous sexual harassment case.

The US-based company where he now serves on the board of directors, iGate Global Solutions, denied the allegations.

"The lawsuit has not yet been served on Murthy. However it is his opinion and belief that the allegations are baseless and it is the most blatant example of taking advantage of the public news of a prior settlement," the statement said.

Infosys in May reached a three million-dollar out-of-court settlement with former US-based employee Reka Maximovitch who said she was harassed by Murthy and unfairly lost her job.

Murthy, once the IT giant's highest-paid employee, denied involvement with Maximovitch. Infosys contributed 1.5 million dollars to the settlement with the other half paid by insurers.

The second suit comes days before Infosys, based in the southern Indian city of Bangalore, is to announce its second-quarter results, which analysts expect to show strong growth.
