NEW YORK (AFP) Sep 16, 2003
Motorola and Microsoft announced plans Monday to team up on a "Smartphone," the first mobile phone running the Windows operating system.

ATT Wireless is expected to offer the phone to its subscribers later this year and France's Orange will market the product in Europe.

The phone will incorporate a Web browser and memory of up to one gigabtye to allow users to access the Internet, e-mail and corporate networks.

Pieter Knook, corporate vice president of mobile and embedded devices at Microsoft said the new Motorola MPx200 "delivers a long-awaited mobile phone experience, combining the powerful and familiar Windows Mobile software with AT and T Wireless' advanced ... services and the trusted quality of a Motorola handset."
