China's leading PC maker reports rise in profits
HONG KONG (AFP) Aug 06, 2003
China's leading PC manufacturer Legend Group said Wednesday its net profits in the June quarter rose 3.86 percent to 278.26 million Hong Kong dollars (35.67 million US).

Sales rose to 5.34 billion dollars from 4.8 billion dollars, while operating profit dropped to 273.38 million dollars from 286.6 million dollars.

Earnings per share was 3.73 cents against 3.57 cents.

The company had earlier changed the brand of its PC products to Lenovo from Legend, as the Legend name is registered by other companies in many countries. The name change was made as the first step towards overseas expansion.

In May, Legend Group reported its year to March 2003 net profit fell 2.7 percent to a slightly less-than-expected 1.02 billion dollars as both global and Chinese demand stalled after the record gains of recent years.
