NEW DELHI (AFP) Jun 19, 2003
India's IT software industry said Thursday it will take a powerful delegation to China and hold a one-day summit there coinciding with Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's visit.

The delegation of National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) will have representatives from some of the most prominent IT firms such as Tata Consultancy Services and NIIT.

The inaugural address of the summit entitled "India & China: Challenges and Opportunities for the IT Sector" will be held on June 26 and addressed by Vajpayee as well as senior Chinese officials.

"The aim of the summit is to strengthen the process of IT collaboration between India and China," Kiran Karnik, president of NASSCOM, said in a statement.

"Chinas user industry can gain from Indias expertise in software and services and help improve their efficiencies," he added.

"Indian IT companies can work with China in the area of chip design and telecommunication technology and use China as an offshore development centre to serve the Japanese market."

India's IT industry's exports to China stand at 200 million rupees, which is 0.05 percent of its total software exports.
