TOKYO (AFP) Jun 12, 2003
Sony said Thursday it will invest about nine billion yen (76.5 million dollars) to make a next generation display panel, which should facilitate smaller, lighter digital cameras and mobile phones.

The Japanese technology giant will start mass production of a new type of Organic Light Emitting Diode (ELED) display panels from next spring, under its new Super Top Emission? trademark.

"The initial production will aim to supply panels with high picture quality for Sony mobile products and production capacity will start from 300,000 (at two inches, five centimetres) for the first stage," Sony Corp. said in a statement.
