The new technology would realise sending or downloading of 120-minute television pictures in 30 seconds, compared with some seven minutes required at present, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun said its evening edition.
The communication speed would be one gigabits per second against 100 megabits per second for the current optic-fibre communications for use in offices and at home, the economic daily said.
NTT plans to mass-produce large-scale integrated circuits using the technology and put the new service in use in one or two years, it said.
No NTT officials were immediately reached for comment on the report.
