DHAKA (AFP) May 01, 2003
At least seven people were killed and 50 injured in lightning strikes during a tropical storm in Bangladesh, media reports and police said Thursday.

During Wednesday's storm lightning killed six people while another died as a house collapsed in the Chapainawabganj district, the Prothom Alo daily reported.

Police said the storm which swept most parts of Bangladesh also left about 50 people injured and damaged homes.

Tropical storms are common around this time of the year in Bangladesh.

Storms last months were blamed for the sinking of two crowded ferries leaving more than 180 people dead and scores missing.
