Asia-Pacific semiconductor market up 26.2 percent in 2002: Gartner
SINGAPORE (AFP) Apr 30, 2003
The Asia-Pacific semiconductor market grew 26.2 percent in 2002, with revenue totalling 55.2 billion dollars, industry research group Gartner Dataquest said Wednesday.

Business spending on information technology products is expected to rise in the second half of this year after the US-led war in Iraq dampened consumer demand worldwide, it said in a press statement.

Recovery in the market for personal computers and mobile phone handsets is expected to drive growth in the region, it said.

"In addition, the growing trend towards outsourcing electronics equipment manufacturing is fueling further demand for semiconductors in the region," said Gartner analyst Philip Koh.
