At least eight killed in landslide in China's Xinjiang
BEIJING (AFP) Apr 27, 2003
At least eight people were killed when torrential rains caused a landslide in northwestern China's Xinjiang region, state media said Sunday.

Heavy rain caused a hillside to collapse Friday, burying the homes of four herding families in Mehe county in mud, Xinhua news agency reported.

The area where the accident happened has more rainfall than any other part of Xinjiang, the agency said.

In May last year, landslides there killed six people and several hundred head of livestock, Xinhua said.
