Lithuania, on course to join NATO next year, will host international military war games in June involving some 800 troops from eight other countries, the Baltic country's government decided on Wednesday.

The games, Amber Hope 2003, are scheduled for June 9-20 and will be aimed at training Lithuanian soldiers to take part in joint operations with NATO countries.

Neighbouring Poland is expected to send 272 troops to the games, Finland will send 252, and Britain 162. Canada, Germany, Denmark, Estonia and Latvia are also expected to join the exercises.

Lithuania will contribute 1,000 troops.
