Pakistani authorities seize 125 rockets near Afghan border
PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AFP) Apr 23, 2003
Authorities in northwest Pakistan have seized 125 rockets allegedly being smuggled from Afghanistan for terror attacks in Pakistan, officials said Wednesday.

"Some 125 Russian-made rockets were recovered from a truck loaded with animal fodder," said Zahirul Islam, an official in North Waziristan tribal region where the cache was seized late Tuesday. The remote area borders Afghanistan.

Islam said the arms were being smuggled from eastern Afghanistan for "terrorist acts in Pakistan."

The truck driver was being interrogated, he added.

The arms cache is the third in the tribal territory in a week.

On Sunday security forces uncovered five missiles, 34 landmines and five rocket shells in tribal Kurram district. Last week grenades, rifles and bullets were seized near the Torkham border crossing. They were packed under dried grass in wooden crates.
