Japan's Sharp to invest extra 1.3 billion dollars in LCD arm
TOKYO (AFP) Apr 23, 2003
Japanese hi-tech company Sharp said Wednesday it will invest an extra 150 billion yen (1.3 billion dollars) on its liquid crystal display (LCD) business.

The investment would be made "over the next few years," said Sharp Corp. spokesman Junichi Kameyama.

"We will allocate 100 billion yen to upgrade our Kameyama plant and a separate 50 billion yen to strengthen the Taki plant," he said.

"Details of the investment, however, have not been decided," Kameyama added.

Sharp has already invested 100 billion yen in its Kameyama plant in Mie prefecture, 350 kilometres (220 miles) west of Tokyo and 50 billion yen at the Taki plant, also in Mie.
