Typhoon Kujira losing momentum but Taiwan stays alert
TAIPEI (AFP) Apr 22, 2003
Taiwan's weather bureau Tuesday kept up warnings of possible rains brought about by Typhoon Kujira, though it has weakened in intensity as it approaches the island.

The Central Weather Bureau urged residents in northeastern, eastern and southeastern Taiwan to expect heavy rains.

Ships in waters south and southeast of Taiwan were given a similar warning.

The bureau said the typhoon was moving slowly toward waters southeast of Taiwan and would weaken in intensity in the next 24 hours.

Packing peak center winds of 100 kilometers (62 miles) an hour, the storm was centred about 300 kilometres (180 miles) southeast of Oluanpi, the southern-most tip of Taiwan, at 7:00 pm (1100 GMT) and moving northwest at 10 kilometers per hour.
