Turkish company wins 42.2-million dollar defence contract with Thales

Turkish electronics company Aselsan said on Tuesday that it had signed two contracts to sell defence equipment worth 42.2 million dollars (38.88 million euros) to French defence group Thales.

The first deal, worth 22.2 million dollars, involved the sale of electronic warfare self-defence systems, Aselsan said in a statement to the Istanbul stock exchange, which was carried by the Anatolia news agency.

The second deal, on infrared thermal night-vision systems and various avionic devices, was worth 20 million dollars, the statement added.

It added that deliveries would take place between 2004 and 2008.

Aselsan, set up by in 1975, is Turkey's leading electronics manufacturer which serves both military and professional customers.
