Australian defence minister and forces chief off to Iraq
CANBERRA (AFP) Apr 21, 2003
Australia's Defence Minister Robert Hill and defence force chief General Peter Cosgrove left for Iraq on Monday to thank Australian forces who help oust Saddam Hussein's regime.

Hill said when announcing the visit last week he would personally thank the Australian contingent of 2,000 soldiers, sailors and air personnel on behalf of the government and all Australians.

He would also call on senior government and military representatives of the Middle East nations that hosted Australian Defence Force units to thank them for supporting Australia's contribution to the US-led coalition and to strengthen defence relations in the region.
