Landslide in Kyrgyzstan kills 30: emergencies ministry
MOSCOW (AFP) Apr 20, 2003
At least 30 people died Sunday when a landslide in the central Asian country of Kyrgyzstan swept away nearly a dozen houses, the Russian news agency Interfax reported quoting the Kyrgyz emergencies ministry.

Rescuers have recovered four bodies so far, while 19 houses in danger of collapse in the village of Kara-Teguit in the southern Osh province had been evacuated, a spokesman for the ministry said.

Both electricity and telephone service to the village in the former Soviet republic has been cut off, the spokesman added.
