Iraqi leaders on US wanted list captured to date

The capture of former finance minister Hikmat al-Azzawi on Saturday brings to five the number of former Saddam Hussein regime leaders detained to date who figure on a US list of 55 most-wanted Iraqis.

Fifty-two of these appear on a deck of playing cards released by the US military. Herewith the list of those captured so far in reverse chronological order:


- Hikmat al-Azzawi. Number 45 on list, eight of diamonds in deck of cards. Former finance minister and deputy prime minister. Captured April 18.


- Samir al-Aziz al-Najim. Number 24, four of clubs. Former oil minister and senior Baath party leader in eastern Baghdad. Captured April 17.


- Barzan Ibrahim Hasan al-Tikriti. Number 52, five of clubs. Saddam's half-brother. Former head of feared intelligence service and presidential advisor. Captured April 17.


- Watban Ibrahim Hasan al-Tikriti. Number 51, five of spades. Saddam's half-brother. Former presidential advisor and one-time interior minister. Captured April 13.


- General Amir Hamudi Hasan al-Saadi. Number 55, seven of diamonds. Rocket specialist and Saddam's chief weapons advisor. Surrendered to coalition troops April 12.
