Six Jordanian students taken captive by US troops in Iraq: reports
AMMAN (AFP) Apr 17, 2003
Six Jordanian students are being held as prisoners by US troops in Iraq, Jordanian newspapers reported Thursday, citing a list provided by opposition parties.

"Jordanian students were captured by US troops when they entered the Iraqi capital and taken from their home in the Qadissiya neighborhood of Baghdad," Al Dustour daily reported.

The newspaper, quoting a statement from a coalition group of opposition parties, said the students, who were enrolled in Iraqi universities, were stuck in Baghdad when the war broke out and unable to return home.

Al Arab Al Yawm carried a similar report and said there were reports of other Jordanian students who had been taken captive by US troops.

Around 3,000 Jordanian students were enrolled in Iraqi universities before the war began on March 20 and many have returned home since.
