Nine killed, scores injured as storms sweep Bangladesh
DHAKA (AFP) Apr 16, 2003
At least nine people, including three children, were killed and scores injured as storms swept through Bangladesh, police and media reports said Wednesday.

Three children and an adult died after a wall collapsed in strong winds on to a shanty home in the capital Dhaka late Monday, while four businessmen drowned when their boat capsized during another storm Tuesday near the southwestern city of Khulna, police said.

Another man died in the northwestern Bogra district Tuesday in a storm, newspapers said, adding scores of people were injured elsewhere in Bangladesh during winds of up to 100 kilometres (62 miles) per hour which also damaged homes and crops.

The storms are common during this time of the year in Bangladesh.
