All oilfield fires in Iraq now extinguished: Centcom

All oilfield fires lit by retreating Iraqi forces have now been extinguished, Brigadier-General Vincent Brooks said Tuesday at the US Central Command's forward base in Qatar.

"At this point there are no burning oil wells in Iraq," he told reporters at Camp As-Saliyah.

Brooks said Monday that US-led forces had taken control of all oilfields in Iraq, adding that the last burning well was in the north of the country.
