Number of US war dead rises to 118
WASHINGTON (AFP) Apr 15, 2003
The toll of US military dead in Iraq rose to 118 Monday, according to the Pentagon.

Of the total US dead, 105 fell to enemy or friendly fire. Thirteen others died in accidents since the war began on March 20, said Colonel Jim Cassella, a Pentagon spokesman.

US wounded numbered 495, while 56 others suffered injuries in accidents, he said.

Four US troops were reported missing, a category that generally means it has not been determined definitively whether they are dead or captured, the spokesman said.

The tally of US prisoners of war remained at zero after the rescue of seven captured soldiers at the weekend.
