Berlin to put up funds for medical aid in Iraq
BERLIN (AFP) Apr 14, 2003
Germany announced Monday it was giving 200,000 euros (216,000 dollars) to the humanitarian aid organization Caritas to buy drugs and health supplies for Iraq.

The amount of money alloted should permit Caritas to distribute supplies to 125,000 people over a three-month period, the foreign ministry said.

The foreign ministry said Caritas would be the first German non-governmental organization (NGO) to enter Iraq.

It stated that until now steady fighting and a lack of security had kept German NGOs out of the country.
