US forces control Tikrit presidential palace: Centcom

US forces have taken control of the presidential palace in Tikrit and are searching for any regime supporters, Brigadier-General Vincent Brooks said Monday at the war command headquarters in Qatar.

"This morning, the attack entered Tikrit, securing the presidential palace and beginning to search for any regime supporters," he said at the As-Saliyah forward base of the US Central Command.

"This really was the only significant combat action that occurred in last 24 hours," he said.
