"It's happening quite frequently now in Iraq," Rumsfeld told reporters, adding that Iraqis have helped in particular to identify members of Saddam Hussein's Baath Party.
"People are coming up and telling us where there are Baath members that are killing people, where Fedayeen Saddam death squad people are that are trying to intimidate the local population, where some of these foreigners who have come into the country thinking they're are going to fight for Saddam Hussein are located," Rumsfeld said.
"They're telling us where they are, and we're able to go out and find them."
He also noted that one or more Iraqis provided the information that allowed US forces to rescue seven American prisoners of war Sunday.
