TIKRIT, Iraq (AFP) Apr 13, 2003 The battle for the key Iraqi powerbase of Tikrit, Saddam Hussein's hometown, is underway with a US attack, Canadian journalist Matthew Fisher told CNN.
Fisher, of the National Post newspaper, told the cable TV station 250 US tanks had entered the city and the US commander in charge had said five Iraqi tanks had been destroyed on the outskirts and at least 15 people killed in firefights.
