AS-SALIYAH (AFP) Apr 12, 2003
US Marines retrieved the body of a dead journalist from a Baghdad hospital and transferred two injured journalists to a field hospital, the US Central Command said in a statement Saturday at its war base in Qatar.

A fourth journalist, who was uninjured, was also found at the hospital.

Centcom said the two injured journalists had been wounded in a firefight at the Palestine hotel on April 8. The statement did not say whether the body was one of two television cameramen killed in that incident.

"US Marines from the First Marine Expeditionary Force recovered four journalists from the Ibn Al Nafees hospital in Baghdad yesterday," the statement said.

"Marines found one journalist dead upon their arrival at the hospital. Two of the journalists were injured on April 8th when they were caught in a firefight at the Palestine Hotel in Baghdad.

The two injured journalists are now being treated at a field hospital, the statement said.

Centcom did not release any details on the identities of the four.

Two cameramen, Taras Protsyuk, 35, from the Reuters news agency and Jose Couso, 37, of Spanish television station Telecinco, were killed after a US tank fired on Baghdad's Palestine hotel on April 8, where most foreign journalists are based.

The killings triggered a torrent of criticism of the US forces from international media watchdogs.
