Antiwar trio Russia, Germany, France wind up summit
SAINT PETERSBURG (AFP) Apr 11, 2003
The leaders of France, Germany and Russia Friday wound up an hour of talks aimed at promoting a central role for the United Nations in Iraq in the aftermath of a war they had strongly opposed.

President Vladimir Putin of Russia, Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder of Germany and President Jacques Chirac of France, who met in Russia's second city Saint Petersburg, then began to address reporters.

All three leaders, who objected to the US-led invasion of Iraq without UN approval, have been pushing for the United Nations to oversee the transition to a post-Saddam administration.
