WASHINGTON (AFP) Apr 11, 2003 The White House said Friday that Saddam Hussein's regime is "gone" in that it has lost centralized control of Iraq, but warned that US-led forces still face stubborn pockets of armed resistance.
"The regime is gone," said spokesman Ari Fleischer. "They have lost control, in an organized, centralized way."
But "the military mission remains remains underway" because US-led troops are still fighting Saddam loyalists, he added.
