Britain starts scaling back Gulf forces
LONDON (AFP) Apr 11, 2003
Britain is beginning to scale back its military deployment in the Gulf by bringing back warships, planes, helicopters and a submarine, the Ministry of Defence said on Friday.

A ministry spokesman told AFP that the Royal Navy frigates Marlborough and Liverpool would be sailing on to the Far East for exercises, while the aircraft carrier Ark Royal would "soon leave the area" and return to Britain.

"We envisage a number of helicopters and aircraft coming back in the next few days," he said, adding that four Tornado supersonic bombers were returning Friday to their home base in Scotland.
