Athens journalists march against war in Iraq
ATHENS (AFP) Apr 10, 2003
Nearly 600 newspaper journalists staged a demonstration on Thursday to protest the war in Iraq and the casualties it has caused among their colleagues in the media, the Esiea trade union said.

Eleven journalists and a Kurdish translator working for the BBC have been killed since the US-led war began on March 20, and another two are still missing.

The journalists stopped work for two hours and marched to the US embassy carrying a huge banner reading "Truth is first casualty of war" and chanting: "Americans, murderers of peoples", "Americans, murderers of reporters".

Esiea condemned the killing Tuesday of three journalists under US fire, in Baghdad's Palestine Hotel and at the offices of Arabic-language television network Al-Jazeera.
