Iraqi UN envoy bound for Netherlands, via France

The ambassador to the United Nations of the Saddam Hussein regime in Iraq was flying to Paris on Thursday, but was due to continue on to the Netherlands, police officials said.

The ambassador, Mohamed al-Douri, was due on an Air France flight from New York at 11.50 a.m. (0950 GMT) and was then due to board an Air France plane to Amsterdam.

Al-Douri defended Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein during debates at the United Nations. It was unclear what his ultimate destination was.
