Canada welcomes impending end of Iraq war: Chretien
OTTAWA (AFP) Apr 09, 2003 Canada welcomes the impeding end of the war in Iraq, Prime Minister Jean Chretien said Wednesday as US-led troops moved into central Baghdad and the regime of President Saddam Hussein appeared to collapse.
"We're happy that the war is almost over. We are happy that, you know, the misery of the people of Iraq has been terminated," Chretien said.
He told the House of Commons Canada would play an important role in Iraq's reconstruction.
