Vatican cardinal relieved at signs of war's end
ROME (AFP) Apr 09, 2003
One of the Vatican's most senior officials, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, on Wednesday greeted with "relief" signs that the war in Iraq was nearing an end.

"It's a relief, naturally we are all happy. It could have gone badly and you could never predict what could have happened because with chemical weapons everything was possible."

"We thank the Lord, it seems that everything has gone well," said Ratzinger, the German head of the Vatican Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
