After cricket, Indian bookies now betting on Iraq war
NEW DELHI (AFP) Apr 09, 2003
The Cricket World Cup may have drawn to a close last month but Indian bookies are still in business with bets now being placed on the duration of the US-led war in Iraq and the fate of Saddam Hussein, a report said Wednesday.

Bookies in the western state of Gujarat and the capital New Delhi are taking bets worth millions of rupees (hundreds of thousands of dollars) on whether Hussein will be in power at the end of April, who will replace him or whether the Kurdish community will have a say in the next Iraqi administration.

Hussein's chances of becoming a prisoner of war are 20-1, while odds for his escape are 15-1, the Asian Age newspaper reported.

The odds on the Iraqi president winning the war are 50-1.
